Anyone else have trouble printing USPS Global Priority labels?
#1
I've printed a dozen or so USPS Priority Mail labels via PayPal for eBay auctions... it's worked GREAT!

However, trying to print GLOBAL priority to Canada... things fall apart.
Instead of generating a nice simple PDF, the USPS page tries to do something or other with Java... and I get the spinny-beachball of death.
Firefox or Safari.
Installed all the updates I could find.. nada.

SO.. I file for a postage refund.. and "expect it in 3-4 weeks"... argh..

I don't really want to spend another $5 or $10 "testing" without seeing if anyone else has had the same problem....

So.. anyone? (Naturally, my last batch of junk on eBay was bought by ALL Canadians! Aarrgghh....)

Hi Paul,

I just did this myself a week or two ago... I don't routinely send to Canada, so it was a new experience for me.

It went perfectly fine, so unless they've changed something in the last week or two, I don't think it's a problem. What browser are you using? I'm using Camino, version 1.0.1; CamiTools installed, User Agent typically set to Firefox 1.5 (Mac) or IE 7.0beta (Windows Vista)...

Also, check your desktop for a PDF download? Maybe it stuck it there...

Also, I don't think you should be getting charged for anything unless you hit the "yes" button when it asked if the label successfully printed; at least, that's my experience.

Tried Safari and Firefox both..
Unfortunately, you're already charged before the print-the-label window opens...
You have a chance to file for a refund, however, if you can't get it to print.

Maybe I'll try printing from work... or from my iBook.. instead of my G4 MDD.

Paul, really, is that true? I would think that if you click "no, my label did not print properly", they cannot really charge you... or worst case, as you say, they charge you but then have to issue you a refund.

Maybe try my setup -- Camino 1.0.1, CamiTools, set User Agent to IE7.0beta (Windows Vista) ... that's unfortunately the setting that I've found works with most sites that use hinky javascript.

Oh, they'll issue the refund...but the USPS doesn't give refunds as quickly as they take your money...
Refunds take "3-4 weeks to process".

That sucks. I think that's happened to me once or twice... usually as a result of a browser crash.

As for the original problem (that of the javascript buttons not working), all I can tell you is that the User Agent feature is the way to figure it out... for example, there are buttons in Hotmail that only work if the User Agent is set a certain way... took me awhile to figure that out.

Using 10.3.9 Safari and Firefox,

You have to get it to save the pdf on the desktop. Then open the PDF with the latest version of Adobe Viewer. Opening with the browser plug-in or preview does not work. I actually shipped two items that had labels that printed through Preview and neglected to notice that they were missing bar codes. They both were lost.

BTW last time I used it there was a test label that you could print for free somewhere on the system requirements page.

MacManMaz;

Trouble is, wtih the Global Priority labels, some java "POS" or other is keeping me from even GETTING that far. Domestic Priority labels work great...
But apparently the Global labels either aren't PDF's like the domestics, or the java-thing-um-a-bob is going all spinney-beachball on me before that PDF is ever generated.

I think I'll go in early tomorrow and try printing one from my computer at work.
I just have to remember that once I purchase the label, I need to either get it printed or file for a refund in 48 hours... otherwise I'm SOL...(no refunds after 48 hours).

Paul, THAT I can tell you for sure-- you do get a regular PDF out of it. It's actually a multi-page PDF because of the Customs forms. The problem you're having is with the javascript, for sure... I've had problems of that sort too recently (search the forum for my posts about javascript)... what doesn't make sense to me about it is that you say that regular Priority Mail is working OK... since basically the procedure was almost exactly the same...
