I gather putting it back the way you had it 2 or 3 years ago and sitting back typing budget need requests is not an option ?

I concur with Appleworks 6. It's still an all around workhorse for WP, SS, drawings for layout and paint for "art." Without knowing more about grade levels and subject matter for students in this lab, it's tough to get more specific.
What seems to be missing is a presentation program. If you could get your hands on old copies of Keynote, it's a definite winner for middle school students in my lab.

Appleworks is a great idea... and yes, this generation of iMacs was bundled with it.
Billb; Trouble is, some of the software in the "old model" was pirated. I didn't know it at the time (I wasn't bright enough to request to see an original installer disk or site-license paperwork...). Markintosh; Still getting up to speed on their "needs"... haven't even met the Lab teacher yet. onthedownlow; Nope... not yet. Which is why now that I've been hired, I'm going to take things in a positive direction right quick! Everyone; Thanks for the tips! Some good ones!

Was just wondering...likely it will never happen, so you could load up the software you'd like (create images, etc.) for 'evaluation purposes' - let the kids get creative and productive, and use that as fodder, throughout the year for next school year, on why the budget needs to consider new software licensing (and hardware too) to stay legal and ethical, as well as for the kids.
You could at least soup up one or two for this purpose.

For gosh sakes, get some more RAM into those machines!

BGnR;
Thanks for the offer! But I just found the original disk set with Appleworks on 'em. (When I helped them unbox them originally, one set of CDs was part of my price to help.. knew I had 'em somewhere!) N-OS X; No budget for more RAM.. Fortunately, a few years ago, when they DID have a tech budget, I upgraded them to 384 from 128... so it COULD have been a lot worse! 384 I can work with... |
