Kameleon 6-in-1 Touch-Screen Universal remote $19.97, 4-in-1 remote $14.97 @ RadioShack (in-store only) **YMMV**

You will have to do the ol' Radioshack hunt to find these. . .

Biggest problem is the remote has a vibration/motion sensor and is so sensitive that anything turns it on. . .so it is a battery hog. . .AND the battery compartment needs to be unscrewed with a screwdriver to change the batteries. . .

BUT there is a link to disable the sensor (the 8-in-1 can be disabled on the remote but Radioshack doesn't sell that one). . .

I got the last of the 6-in-1 remote @ my local store and was lucky enough to get a Premium Warranty, which doubles the warranty period, because it was a return or display model . . . .It looked in "like new" condition and worked on all my machines. . .I will try the disable later. . .

NOTE: Some stores have a newer version of the the 6-in-1 model, 15-2137. . .some say this model is better. . .some say worse. . .

Instructions on how to disable the sensor

There are 3 options given on how to disable it. . .

LINK to site that describes how to disable the vibration/motion sensor and save on batteries. . .

Also, you can get additional codes by contacting their customer service as per this person's account:

There is an 800 number in the owners manual. Call them up and ask them for a new code. They will do a lookup for you and send the codes right over the phone. You just hold the phone up to the remote and it will be programmed. I did it for my home theater and it worked perfectly. You must use a land line though. A cell phone just doesn't do the trick for some reason.

UPDATE

Geeks.com has the 8-in-1 for $29.95 plus shipping. . .

how easy was it to program? The local store has the 4 in 1, and I would love one that REALLY worked for the DVD, VCR and TV properly. My several universal ones are half-assed when it comes to the VCR and DVD players.

The 6-in-1 was easy. . .press the device (TV, DVD player, etc)

press "P" for 3 seconds then enter the code

all the codes listed in the manual worked for my TV, DVD player, audio receiver, ReplayTV (it says it works with TiVO too but I didn't try it).

All the basic functions work fine. though some ReplayTV controls were not there. . the remote can also do some macros but haven't had a chance to fiddle with those yet. . ..

I've only had the remote for a few hours. . .

the motion sensor is annoying since it turns off if I breathe too close but I will try the disable operation . . . .worth $20 to me...

my local store didn't have the $14.97 otherwise I would have gotten that one. .

also, Kameleon remotes seem to be rebadged OneForAll (I think this is the brand) remotes or they are the same company? people in this forum love the OneForAll remote and if you search on amazon for Kameleon remote. . .some have the OneForAll name. . .

hmmmm. . .

Hey Newton. Which ReplayTV controls don't work? I'd be getting this remote to replace another universal remote that's wearing out, but want to make sure I can do commercial advance (5040 model).

Got one this morning from RS. The model I bought is 2137, which is a bit newer. You can disable the motion sensor with a program code. You don't have to open up the unit or cut anything. I haven't programmed it yet, but it does have program codes for my Advent TV, which is very rare to find with these uiversal rmotes.

. . .so far the Channel Guide has no button (the one that give you the guide for all the channels)

the "Info" button lets you see the current program for the channel you are on. . .the "Menu" button is the same and the "Replay Guide" buttons works too . ..

You can't turn on commercial advance (@ least I haven't found a way yet) but the "QuickSkip" and "instant Replay" works fine. .

again I've only have it for a day so I might be missing something. ..

good luck!

There are two codes for ReplayTV, 0614 and 0616. I think they do different things b/c I got the Channel Guide but not the Replay Guide. I guess I'll be setting some macros or learning functions for commercial advance.

I read that model #15-2137 might allow disabling of sensor but only one person said it worked and the nearest store didn't have it. . .

I called around and found one though. . .might grab it. . .otherwise, the remote is pretty nifty for the price. ..
