I'm updating from a Palm Zire 71 to a Palm TX. One of the reasons was for the wifi connectivity. I know the device uses 802.11b so I changed my Airport Extreme from 802.11g only to 802.11b and g compatible but I use MAC address filtering.
I can't find anything in the Palm documentation that came with it or online on how to obtain the MAC address for the Palm.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
In the long run I'll probably not use the Palm's wifi around the house when it would be easier just to walk up to a computer but I want to test it and become familiar with it.

OK despite it not being mentioned in the manual I found the MAC address on the back of the unit.
Still can't make it connect though.
My Airport Extreme is set to 128 bit WEP with a password.
The Palm configurations for WEP are:
40 bit-hex
40 bit ASCII
40 bit passphrase
104-bit hex
104-bit ASCII
104-bit passphrase
None of this seems to match up.
I've been using Apple wireless which is pretty easy so I may be a little dumb when it comes to wireless technology.
Any ideas?

Do you have your palm? If I remember correctly (and looking at my palm settings now), it should do that automatically. If you broadcast your network name, it should sniff that out, and then you just enter the password (using the correct security setting). The palm TX connects pretty easily to free wifi networks generally; I have had more trouble at airports or hotels that have paid access networks.
oops, you filter IPs; under configure the network settings on the TX you can assign an IP address and and DNS server for the palm (but I haven't done this, but I see those settings there). I do it automatically on mine.

I use 104 bit ascii for the wep if that helps. Sorry, I can't remember having trouble, I was connected in minutes. Try turning off mac address filtering and see if using auto helps.

It's been awhile but I think I used 104/passphrase. I don't broadcast my ssid though, michaelb is right, if you are broadcasting your ID it should just ask for the password.

I figured it out. I couldn't use the airport extreme password. I had to select "equivalent network password" from the base station menu and then enter that under 104 bit hex.
It works now.
by the way, is there any negative to leaving the Airport Extreme base station configured for 80211.b and g compatibility compared to g only?

It is a bit slower and the range is a little less, but other than that, there are no consequences.
