Apple Mac Mini MA205LL/A (Core Solo) $299 @ UCSD (University of California, San Diego) Bookstore
List on the website as $499 but as a pre-order a sign in the bookstore says $299. . .
so for those in California. . .an opportunity?
Some relevant comments:
When I was at the UCSD bookstore today I saw a sign that said Intel Mac Mini MA205LL/A for 299.99. The sign did say pre-order which was a bit weird to me, but the price on the sign was pretty explicit. I was in a hurry (parked in a loading zone) so I didn't have the time to ask further about the deal. If anyone is in the UCSD area it could be quite a steal.
I know it says $499 online, but in store the sign clearly said $299.
I think officially only students and teachers can purchase, but I recently purchased a Sony Laptop from them and I haven't been a student for years. They didn't ask for any student IDs or anything.
I called the bookstore today and they confirmed the $299 price was for pre-order as they didn't have any in stock. They did say that they expected them in a few days.
I was told that they would have them in stock this Wednesday.
Personal purchases are limited to 2 (no limit for department purchases).
How could UCSD afford to sell it so cheaply?
It is a discontinued model.
Uni. computer stores are returning them to Apple.
(see http://pm.doit.wisc.edu/)
So Apple have to liquidate them somewhere.
LINK to the bookstore website even though it really is in-store only. ..
