When will we see more HD channels?
#1
For a while there they were popping up. The major networks, HDnet, PBS, Discovery, ESPN, NFL. It's been a while since I've seen a new HD channel.

I specifically want Sci-Fi in HD for BSG!

I saw an episode of Enterprise on HDnet and it looked fabulous. It's a shame that series started so slow and then got good the last season when it was cancelled.

P.S. Any of you with HD notice that the new Nano commercial is in HD. Sweet!

Probably not many, all of the majors are fully HD, and most of the minors. Los Angeles is a huge market and changed quickly. Problem is content, not much out there, the broadcasters rather slice up the bandwidth then dedicate it to a solitary channel.
Most cable companies rather not carry that much data, most are at their capacity between broadcast data, and internet. Also, they are really holding subscribers hostage, what little HD content Time Warner carries, you can only receive with a TW HD-DVR box, at an extra 30 bucks a month, that of course is only the broadcast channels, anything else like the beautiful Discovery HD is extra cash.

Are you sure about that? I read somewhere that the broadcast channels could be tuned in with the basic TW cable package, assuming you have a HD tuner.

Time Warner used to have much more "unscrambled" HD channels and you could receive with just an HD tuner BUT they put an end to it last year I think. . .

you used to be able to get Discovery HD, Universal HD, etc.FREE ..now you can still get the basic HD channels with the tuner but the "good stuff" is now scrambled. ..

Well, I shouldn't say TW, we are just switching over from Adelphia, and all the HD channels are encrypted, and you have to use their HD-DVR box to receive anything HD. According to one of the executives, the complete changeover will take about a year, my email will change for the fifth time, the channel lineup will change, and of course pricing changes. They really screwed up this last weekend, two page color ad offering a $30 high speed internet, and a $30 digital cable for six months. Problem is that Adelphia subscribers are frozen, and the new subscriber system is totally hosed, no one can sign up! So I was stuck at $120, because my old deal had been cut off by the changeover. Finally got ahold of a tech that knew some codes, brought me down to $80, she said she would call as soon as the $60 deal is available.

Looks like it's gonna be a while before HD comes to the "standard" channel packages on DirecTV...
Of course, the HD Tivo Reciever for DirecTV is still over priced too... so it's gonna be a while before it matters to me..
