Can't upload large Tiff files to tradeshow ftp server- any suggestions?
#1
Well, it's that time of the year - yet another freeman tradeshow for me to get out - this time a 10x30, full graphic walls. After what I went through this year and this post: http://forums.macresource.com/read/1/159...msg-159031, I decided to press for confirmation on the design spec, which I felt was wrong as I got it. Seems it is 100dpi @ full size.

Now I can't get files to upload to their ftp server. I've tried from OS9 with Fetch 3.0.3 and OS 10.4.6 with Transmit, both from our TI at work and now with Comcast cable at home (this is vacation? - sigh)

Files are about 170-180MB. I have sometimes been able to get about 140MB up but then the last 30MB just hangs or I get a message that the file cannot be uploaded as another process is in progress - and it's pretty slow going with comcast (about 40min a file).

Their virus detection is really slow, much slower than what I get when I uoload to some printers.

I'm wondering if LZW compression in the Tiffs will help or maybe uploading from (ugh) PC.

I don't want to deal with overnighting 1 GB of files at Christmas time. Time to call them now.
TIA
JoeM

Maybe their ftp is (almost) full.

I always use LZW compression on ftp tiffs.

Saving as a .psd sometimes results in a smaller file than even a LZW tiff.

You can even save a tiff w/jpeg compression through PS, although this is lossy. They will need PS to open it, though...

Just saved as Tiff with LZW and file size has dropped to around 20MB. I'm guessing maybe they have a file size limit? Going to try to upload now. thanks
