Intel Macpro - shipping weight and box size OR shipping cost
#1
Hi,

Does anybody know the size and weight of the Box a Macpro ships in? I am considering buying a refurb from the Apple Store and having it shipped to a friend in Oregon to avoid CA sales tax. I need to be able to calculate the shipping and insurance will be to figure out if its worth the hassle.

The taxes would be about $140 or $150. I think shipping and insurance would be about $50 so that is worth it to me. But if shipping and insurance will be much more than that I won't bother.

Thanks!

Refurb boxes are different size then the new item boxes.

54.4 pounds http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MA356LL-Dual...52?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1174533831&sr=8-1

FYI--Amazon sells the 2.66 for $2349 after rebate shipped (no taxes in Cali?)... You can also buy Final Cut Express (same invoice) for $75 after $200 rebate, then keep FCE for a great price, or sell it on eBay for the going rate of $200, thus knocking your final cost down by another $125 ($2225 total shipped ain't bad).

Hi,

Great idea on using FCE! Thanks for the weight!

I am planning to wait for the next models to be released, then get the current models refurbed when they have been discontinued. I think the 2.66 will be about $1,800. I think I can get $1,100 or $1,200 for my DP 1.8.

If anyone has the box size I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

That amazon page has the dimensions of the tower--you could approximate by adding about 8 inches to each of the three measures... that should be good enough if you're not right around your shipper's jump to 'oversize' classification (I suspect it's comfortably OVER the limits of oversize).
