I forgot which nuts are best and which oil is not good.

well, that dos not sound too appetizing to me, but I would suggest Walnut oil and either walnuts or pine nuts toasted in the oven at about 225F until they just start to turn color and you can smell them. also, some goat cheese would probably go well with this combo.

Well, it certainly sounds "interesting." I've never heard of that combination. And that might be OK!

I thought I invented it, but I've seen lots of recipes for it since. I think it's olive oil that doesn't work.

My mom made this salad for Christmas. We've had it a few times since. It's delicious.

Don't toast the nuts in the oven, not enough control, use a pan, sauté them dry.

That looks like a good recipe, karsen.
I'll try it out in the summer when the fresh strawberries and local spinach are available here in the Happy Valley. Edit: I wanted to say that lately my favorite salad has been lettuce with red onions, mushrooms, carrots and any other likely vegetables i can find, with feta cheese and dried cranberries and cashew nuts. i use a balsamic-olive oil dressing.

Add thinly sliced strawberries, shaved red onion, and a touch of honey to your favorite balsamic dressing - walnut oil sounds good if you wish it dominate the flavor. I would choose a neutral flavored oil.
A gastrique would would be wonderful! Gastrique: Information from Answers.com |
