Am I looking at a last minute snipefest that drives my item up like 2% over the minimum bid or what?

I know No Reserve auctions are supposed to do better, but I put a $450 minimum on this thing to cover the cost of its new logic board and a little extra. By recent standards $700 would be a decent price to expect.

Am I screwed?

Isn't there supposed to be some idiot who bids well in advance and skews the whole bidding process upward? Maybe those idiots are all ILAF (idiotic like a fox) shill bids?

If recently finished auctions indicate it's worth $700, why did you bother to put a minimum of $450? It's been a while since I sold stuff on ebay, but in several hundred transactions, I don't ever recall selling a high priced item and not getting a decent price for it. I always started my high priced items at $9.99. Saved on listing fees, and generated a lot of interest.

I don't know much about setting up auctions, and I had no idea that I'd save on listing fees by starting low (thought the buy price determined that).

Anyway, I think the $450 mark was purely a matter of being unable to afford the sell-price to be lower than that and being nervous.

Again, my ignorance--I thought reserve and start price were the same. No idea why (after selling a number of items) I'm still so clueless.

EDIT: 450 was the start, no reserve.

Agreed; I usually start my auctions at either a buck or ten bucks, and let the market dictate the outcome. I've never really been burned; on a couple of items I sold for less than I wanted (but not by much).
