CHEAP CHEAP! MAX Out Your Older iMac, FrankenBeigeG3, Smurf or G4!
#1
160GB Maxtor with 3 year warranty @ Frys http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4999121

Put these on the built in controller and they will format out at a true 128GB of space for maximum storage space on a legacy Mac.

A pair of these drives in a RAID 0 will give you a fast 256GB boot drive in a Smurf, or older G4 and at this price is cheaper than buying an ATA controller card & bigger HD.

I'm not sure about the Beige G3's, but on Smurfs and G4's I've heard of data loss when using 160's that way as the data on the drive approaches the 128GB limit.

Edit: You could, of course, just buy/borrow/steal a PCI IDE card with big drive support and avoid all of this BS while enjoying faster drive access than you'd get from the native bus. Or install a FireWire card and use the drive in an external case. What self-respecting FrankenBeige owner hasn't installed a FireWire card?

I have been using a pair of drives setup in a RAID 0 like this as the boot drive on my QS for more than 3 years without any trouble. The PCI/ATA card has a pair of large drives attached that are used for storage and backup along with an External Firewire Hardware RAID 0.

They work fine IF you format them as 120gb drives in the smurf, etc. If you format them as 160's in a later machine of FW case, you're begging for trouble, if it even works at first.
