The violinist might not have $5,000 to give, the violin is only on loan to him. And it included a private performance and tickets to the driver and family for his next performance in New York at Carnegie Hall.

What a dipwad for leaving it behind in the first place. Heck, I don't even let my MBP out of my sight when I travel, and that's just a $1K plus.

I know a classical violinist who was on his way to a giig and realized he had forgotten his car keys. He put the violin on the hood of his car and went to get the keys. He came back, started the car and ran over the violin in the case. It was worth about $200,000.

A fiddle-maker nearby restored it, but ti never sounded the same.
