If I'm busy, I don't answer the door. If I'm not, I step outside and chat with the person. If the person looks like the typical starving college student who got suckered into a crap job where they get bused around, dropped off at one end of the neighborhood at 8 AM and picked up at the other end at 6 PM, get paid next to nothing to 'pay for their room and board'.. well, I step back in, put together a drink and a sandwich and donate that to their cause.
I had a college roomate who got suckered into doing that crap one year. He said it was akin to slavery. And he spent about four of the 12 weeks in one jail or another despite the company telling the kids that they had 'permission and permits' to be there.
Most of these kids are just trying to get by doing a crap job. Be nice to them.

To the high school or college students, we always are nice. It's the charities and religious recruiters who cannot take "No thanks." for an answer. Some of them keep coming back until we either give them the donation or see the light from the mountain!

But they don't have to know whether the rifle you're holding (not even pointed at them... just holding it), is loaded or not.
I was moving guns from a downstairs closet to a new gun safe a few years ago.. and someone selling something rang the bell... So I answered the door... holding a rifle (the dirty t-shirt added to the effect)...
The guy just said, "Uh.. sorry. wrong house!" and beat a hasty retreat.
I didn't figure out for a few seconds why he suddenly looked unwell and ran back to his car...

This is 2007. Does ANYBODY still buy things from door-to-door salesman? And are two weird guys wearing ties really going to be able to save my soul when all I want to do is finish my bowl of Cheerios?
Can't these people witness their Jehovah somewhere else besides my front porch?
The Pony Express is out of business. Typewriters and film-based cameras are on their way out. How soon can we hope for these door-to-door idiots to finally give up?

The last Witnesses I had were about 12 years ago. They showed up just after my 1 year old went down for her nap. I needed some adult conversation, and invited them in with the warning that if they wanted to discuss religion, I would discuss it right back.
They started on their script, and I had to correct them when they did not know the difference between Atheism and Agnosticism.
Then, they moved on to proving the Bible was written by God. Their argument was that the Bible predicted the future, ergo it was divinely written. The example cited was that the Bible predicted 5 world governments (The Greeks, The Roman, The Holy Roman Empire, The League of Nations, and the United Nations).
So, I patiently pointed out that 3 of these did not include China or the Americas, and that the US was not a member of League of Nations. They disputed the last point, so I dragged out my something or other which noted that the US never ratified the treaty of Versailles.
They said, they'd come back with the minister, but I haven't seen a Witness since.
