I'm sure it varies, but anyone know about how long it takes for new models to show up as refurbs?
I'm looking to get a MacBook, but would like the new model that can support up to 4GB RAM and has the better video card. I'm not in a rush, so I can wait to save the 20% or so, but just curious as to the time frame.

Best time I recall was about 4-5 weeks after a new model came out before refurbed ones started showing up. But usually closer to 8 weeks or so. That has been my impression based on watching the refurb pages, but have not kept any records to track exact dates.

The 20" and 24" aluminum iMacs are already out as refurbs. I have one on order with delivery scheduled for Monday 12/3/07. I believe I have seen the new Macbooks as refurbs in the past week.

Pretty much immediately. And then availability increases over time. You will find any model available as a refurb, no matter how new, if you check the store often enough.

Case in point. The Al iMacs were introduced 8/2/07, and started showing up early October about 8 weeks later.. But you are wrong about the new MacBooks, none of the newest 2.0/2.2 GHz models have shown up yet. Just ones from the last three or four iterations of release of Core Duo and Core 2 Duo models..

Absolutely correct.
Especially if there is a Apple show during the announcement and they have a bunch of demo models which cannot be sold as new./

Daughter's boy friend, who works for Dell in Round Rock, said that anything that is returned, even though new and working fine, goes in the refurb category. He has gotten some fantastic deals on brand new stuff he says.
