But the Dacia Logan represents a new trend, a move toward ultra-cheap cars. In France, a Logan can cost as little as 7,600 euros (about $11,000). It is the cheapest car in Europe and was originally targeted for Eastern Europe, Asia and South Africa.
But to everyone’s surprise (especially Renault’s), the Logan has also been a huge sales success in Western Europe. France and Germany alone accounted for nearly 15 percent of the Logan’s 159,173 mid-2007 sales total. . . .
