Opera Opens New Round in Browser Battles

. . .Web browser developer Opera Software ASA complained to the European Commission about Microsoft Corp. on Thursday and asked regulators to force the company to give users a choice of Internet software with its Windows operating system.

The small Norwegian company also alleged that Microsoft was holding developers back from making programs that work with each other ''by not following accepted Web standards.''. . .

Web standards, that's pretty rich.

I think the only real web standard is TCP/IP.

I guess you're a crossword puzzle freak, 2100. I say that because that statement was a clue in a recent puzzle, don't remember off the top of my head if it was USAToday or the LA Times. Right?

What's Opera, Doc?
Is Warner Bros. send up of the Wagnerian Ring Cycle in 7 minutes or less.

My favorite, bar none.

"Oh, Brunhilde, you're so wovewy!"

There are plenty of web standards. Microsoft avoids ALL of them.

Not totally true (not that I'm into defending M$). IE7 is a whole lot more standards-compliant than earlier browsers. Fortunately, IE 5.x is now pretty much history as far as percentage of users go, but IE 6 is still pretty high, so hacks are still necessary writing markup. But IE 7 is at least going more or less in the right direction. BTW, Safari 3 is setting a good pace in compliance.
