Krispy Kreme Twofers
#1
Buy a dozen donuts at a Krispy Kreme store and get a dozen free. Good through 2/12/08. You can also join the Friends of Krispy Kreme (FOKK) and get free coupons. An interesting acronym.

I missed that news.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krispy_Kreme#California

I remember when Krispy Kreme opened in Los Angeles. The line of cars would stretch for miles ever morning.

People in California thought that Krispy Kreme was an authentic New York style donut and thought they could be cool like New Yorkers if they ate them. The local news stations would give KK free promos and every TV show had a scene with a Krispy Kreme box. It got more coverage than anything else on tv.

As a native New Yorker, I was baffled by it. Dunkin' Donuts is far more prevalent in NY and LA already had plenty of 'em. To me, Krispy Kreme is a primarily Southern phenomenon.

When I left, the craze was still running strong.

Never saw that behavior and I not only live down the street from a Krispy Kreme, I worked up the street from one and could see it from my office window.
North Carolina is in New York??
Lines stretching for miles??

Alas, it pre-dates the blog-explosion. Still, there are a few mentions of the craziness here and there...

'Seems they'd declined already by 2004-2005 (I left in 2002).

http://thedooryard.typepad.com/the_doory...rt_th.html As I thought, total exaggeration, the Van Nuys store is the one up the street from my house, saw it built, used to drive by there daily, the Salon link said the line doubled back upon itself, sure it did, the line length was maybe 250 feet, no longer than the lines at In-N-Out Burger, or any fast food joint in SoCal during peak times.
No lines stretching for miles, no mobs.
For those folks in SoCal, this is the Krispy Kreme at Sherman Way and Van Nuys Blvd, right in front of the Albertson's Market, across the street from a Sporting Goods store.
Pretty sure it is shut down, haven't driven past that part of town in about a year.

Two weeks, man, two weeks. As Bart says, "Mardi Gras, man. When the Big Easy calls, you gotta accept the charges."

I lived in Van Nuys about 3 blocks away from that place. Sometimes the line would wrap around the block so many times that Sepulveda would be backed up all the way into the Hills. When Good Day reminded everyone about Krispy Kreme (as they regularly did) the lines doubled or tripled and just getting over to the hardware store or Petco could be an arduous trip.

(You know that hardware store where Lou Ferrigno's wife was caught in the crossfire when some kids opened up with machine guns in the parking lot? I forget the name of it.)

> no longer than the lines at In-N-Out Burger

Your idea of short lines clearly encompasses a wide range.

'Last time I went for a double-double-double it took far less than 3 hours. 'About 5 minutes as I recall.

I suspect that you were nowhere near that place when it opened and your memory is tainted by its recent decline.

I know that you are in total BS mode when you say the line was wrapped around the block so many times that it backed up Sepulveda Blvd into the hills!
Anyone who actually knows the SFV is laughing their azz off right about now!
Can you give me at least one story substantiating this claim?
