I recall reading that Boeing considered a HUGE flying wing shape, about the time Airbus announced the early design for the "A3xx" which was later named the A380...
Boeing decided that the massive flying wing was too risky an over-reaching technology wise... and didn't pursue it.
Neat idea though... I recall something like 1200 passengers, transcontinental range.... But too big (wide, I think) for existing ground facilities....
Of course, I could be misremembering a lot of that.
