Horses love to race.
Ever watch wild horses run just to run ?
Dogs fight in the wild, too.
One could argue that humans watching is what is sick.

What a horrible sport.
If you loose, or get injured... you die.

It is beautiful to see the bond of trust between man and animal in horse racing or jumping. Same thing with dogs in the Iditarod, seeing eye dogs, rescue dogs, etc.
OK, cats don't care one way or the other.
I cannot take anything peta says seriously.

NASCAR is a "sport," too. You know, driving fast... a sport.

A 4pm start of the broadcast for a race that begins at 6pm and last all of about 2 minutes? And we think the Super Bowl is dragged out.

I find it difficult to get interested in the Derby because there is no campaign leading up to it anymore. It used to be the horses would run some preps as two year olds and then run in the Wood Memorial and some other races leading up to the Kentucky Derby. A casual fan had a chance to get interested in a couple of runners. Now the horses run one or two races, they don't run against each other, and so many horses enter that the Derby is a big cavalry chase. The winner is determined by luck at the start more often than not.

It's been quite a ride this year.
Eight Bells was put down on the field shortly after coming in second. Both of her front legs were broken.
It's rare for a filly to race in the Derby, rarer still for a filly to do so well. Tragic that she died that way.
