Dandelions
#1
Okay, so are those yellow dandelions the same ones that have those white puffy balls that blow away? (hold on a sec, I made myself laugh). Do the yellow petals turn into the puffs or do the puffs grow out of the plant somewhere else?

Lip,

Yups. They are one and the same. And, they are the bane of nice lawns. You should've seen the look of glee on my near five year old nephew's face as he pulled them out and swirled the white puffs around, sending them seeds all over the place. 'course, that means we'll have a new crop of them but what can you do. Better dandelions than mushrooms.

I think the petals and the seeds/parachutes are two different structures.

This is fun. thanks for the links. I always hated them. Now I am learning tolerance and understanding them before I kick them out of my yard.

I love my garden but I am not a lawn fanatic. I actively encourage weeds (better known as wild flowers) and in some areas use yellow rattle which helps suppress grass so that wild flowers have a chance. Buttercups, dandelions and daisies are all welcome.

This is yellow rattle.

If you spray Grecian Formula on the yellow flowers they won't turn white.

My tortoises LOVE dandelions, both leaves & flowers & I know where all of the good patches grow. Of course I dig 'em out of my front yard!
