Thanks for any answers.
I am moving from a PPC to an intel mac.
I nixed out the "helpers" because I wasn't ready; I've heard I can relaunch them but don't know how or whether I want to.
Here's what I was thinking . . .
Copy my Applications, Users, and Library folders to the new mac, and swap 'em out for the fresh ones there.
Put my tunes and images and documents and such where they should go . . .
Any reason the above won't work? Will I get hung up by the moved stuff not being written for Intel?
Both systems will be Leopard.

I wouldn't do that AT ALL.
You'll miss application helpers in strange places.
I'd use Migration Assistant, and then prune stuff out.

some people here think all hell will break loose if you try the migration assistant between different architectures but its only superstition.

Easiest thing to do is to just use Migration Assistant. Don't move the Library manually as you could miss hidden files. Just make sure you have a backup of your PPC drive before you do it.

When I went from PPC to Intel, I discovered I had an enormous amount of CRAP in my Applications folder. Apps I hadn't used in years and of course everything was entirely PPC when there were universal/Intel versions available for almost everything.
Not using Migration Assistant for the apps turned out to be a big advantage in this case.

I used the migration assistant to go from an iBook G4 to an Intel macbook and had no problems at all. That's what I would suggest.

Dont worry about a crapload of extra apps...just buy a larger HD!

Your plan is insane and sure to fail. Use migration assistant and choose to move everything.

I did this same migration from a rock solid G4 laptop to the original mactel. Worked great (and was better than a friend going from a TiPB to the same G4 laptop I now no longer needed).

I'll add to the chorus. I used Migration Assistant to move from a G3 IceBook (10.4) to a new MacBook (10.5) and the whole process went quite smoothly. Good Luck!
