HELP: Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS - Paper light is Flashing
#1
Hi, so I got the printer. It appears to be in a good condition, by looking at the plastic and rubber parts (rollers, belts) it seems to be new. It had some paper in it, the toner was installed, so I guess it was used a little, but not much.

Now the paper light is blinking. I just put a lot of paper in the tray, the paper is still blinking. The manual says:

Paper light ON = Paper cassette is Empty. OK, so the light is NOT ON, and there is paper in the tray. if I take the tray out, the light still flashes.

Paper light OFF =Paper supply is OK.

Paper light Flashing = Printer is ready for sheet of manual-feed paper. OK, so the light is flashing regardless if the tray is in or out, or if I open or close the manual-feed door.

What to do next?

Thanks a lot.

Not exactly sure, but sometimes the printer will not recognize that the paper tray is inserted. Make sure it's seated properly I guess, there are sensors that you can probably find the location of to see if they are engaging.

did you try feeding it a sheet of paper via the manual feed tray?

I tried, no luck. I don't have it hooked up yet, but I hope it should print a test page when it starts. I also found that switch inside and I press it with a toothpick, but it still won't print

Also, its the same engine as the LaserJet 5 series.

oooph, not sure, might want to post over there. also, if you PM me your email address i can send you the Apple Service source guide. I did skim it and didn't see much that applied to you...if we're interpreting the lights correctly.

Everyone says it is easy to fix these printers. You never know if you have diagnosed the problem correctly so you might end up with a repair kit that doesn't help. By the time you add up all the costs, it would have made more sense to buy new. I have a 16/600 sitting in the basement just for this reason.
