[quote macphanatic]Brother 5250DN. Duplex and networkable. Also supports Bonjour.
Another vote for the 5250DN. Amazon has refurbs for $150. I got a refurb via OfficeMax and used a $30 coupon but they haven't had them in a while. Plugged it into my Buffalo router and everyone, Mac and PC, wired and wireless, can print to it. Duplex printing is great.

I have been using the Brother HL 2070N and have been happy with it. It's connected to my network and used by a G4 - Tiger, a Mini - Tiger, a MacBook - Leopard and a Dell Laptop XP Pro. On occasion, I would have to unplug the printer to get it to work with the Macs but never with the Dell. Go figure? I've had it for about 2 years and think I paid $89.00 or so.
The laptops print via wireless router.
Oh, I have an old G3 running 8.6 and it can also print to it although the driver says it must be a least OS 9.

Great - Looks like a Brother it will be. Now to hope a deal is posted on one or the other. As I print so seldom, duplex isn't all that important, but, for similar $, I'll go that route. Thanks to everyone for the input.

BTW....I have my brother hooked up into my Airport and I have no probs printing from the Mac or the VMWare PC side (now at least!).
I think the newegg deal goes off and on, so keep looking. Also, the 5250DN is nice as well. We have that here in the office and its pretty good. I agree about the new HPs. My 1012 just crapped out last week...they arent built to last anymore.

OL,
The problem you had with the printer may actually be an issue with the base station. My parents have an Airport Extreme (802.11n) model and it "forgets" it has an HP Officejet 6110 connected to its USB port. The only way to remind it about the printer is to restart the unit. I usually just use the "Restart Base Station" command via the Airport utility. It's very annoying and happens often enough that I'm getting ready to call Apple about it.
That said, my next networkable printer will be another HP, most likely an all-in-one like the Laserjet 3055 my office bought a few months ago. Rock solid. We love it! Definitely worth the investment, especially if you have a home office. With that in mind, be it laser or inkjet, my home will always have an all-in-one because the ability to photocopy and/or fax from the house is incredibly handy!

Don't rule out color lasers. There usually is some deal going that puts them not much higher in cost than the b/w ones. And as you you don't print much, it's Very nice to have a printer that spits out the occasional color print without all it's inks drying up in-between.

I've been running an HP LaserJet 5MP connected to the network with an external JetDirect box for over 12 years now. It needed one minor repair (cracked feed gear) a few years back, but it's a tank.

ditto about this model of Brother. i've had one one my network for about 2 years also. about once every 3 months it will lose the signal but i really think it's a router issue, not the printer. Bonjour has the printer talking to a mac mini (in Tiger and OS 9), an eMac Panther, a G4 laptop Tiger, and a Windows XP desktop. i've recommended this printer to a number of folks who have been very happy with it.
