Need New Tires: Ideas?
#1
I need a new set of tires for my 04 Honda Odyssey; anyone have a particular brand or specific tire that you recommend?

How do you find the best deal on a set of tires? Costco is selling Michelins for $95-165 each after a $60 rebate card on a set of 4 (includes mounting and all other fees).

i'm pretty happy with the Hydro-Edge Michelins i got from Costco especially since they do free tire rotations for the life of the tire. plus, they fill with hydrogen for no extra charge. there's a lot of controversy as to whether or not that's a benefit but at least it's free. i do check my tire pressure and i've only need to add air to one tire once in almost 2 years.

michelins are the most expensive, but they have always given me the best/most quite ride of any tire i have ever bought

replaced my camrys michelins with toyos, ugh, then, goodyears and now they have bridgestones -- none of them as nice as the original MXVs

there are some new 60,000 mile rated MXVs out there, worth a look

I sure hope they don't fill with hydrogen...something about exploding tires that aren't exactly what most drivers want to see.

They probably fill with nitrogen. There is no controversy about nitrogen. It has significant benefits for aircraft, spacecraft and racing cars. For passenger cars it is utterly useless and is purely a marketing scheme used to attract customers ("If it's good enough for the space shuttle, just think about what it'll do for your car!"). There is simply no scientific basis or documented benefits for using it in passenger vehicles. http://www.cartalk.com/content/columns/A...ry/02.html

Oh, as far as tires are concerned, go to the Tire Rack website and look through their ratings, tests and user opinions. You'll soon figure out which tires are good and which not so.

dunno about specific brands, but I love costco's lifetime free rotating and balancing.

http://www.Discounttiredirect.com has prices equal to tirerack and offer free shipping.

I tend to stick with either Yokohama or Michelin tires.. both give good thread wear and smooth rides.

We run Michelins on my Corolla and wife's Camry. Excellent tires!

hehe. thanks for the correction. guess i'm not driving a hindenburgmobile. yes, the controversy is whether nitrogen is worthwhile for passenger cars. i wouldn't pay extra for it; i don't mind that Costco includes it for no additional charge.
