I'd heard his name but never his music - until last night. I just stumbled across his show on PBS and. . . . Absolutely LOVED IT. Don't know how I managed to miss his music all these years. My wife felt the same way.

Same here. He played sax and a backup guy played muted trumpet. It was great. I haven't looked for it. I doubt if has been recorded other than the TV show. I don't know how to get it from VHS to audio on computer.

Van is my all time favorite artist. He has gone through so many transitions, which make him all the more interesting.
There is Rockin Van , Classic Van Morrison, Bluesy, and then what I call Religious/Spiritual Van Morrison Sunday Music. His music can be Poetic, Mystical, Hypnotic or folk. I only got to see him once at a Midnight concert during New Orleans Jazz fest. My goal is to have everything he ever recorded. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Morrison

nOt bad at all, just Google or Wiki him! Huh? Does anyone not know who Van Morrison is? It was just a helpful hint for those who don't. Ihave been listening to his music since "Them" the group! I suppose that dates me? Saw him once on the streets of Fairfax, CA. Walked past him, smiled and nodded my head.

"Walked past him, smiled and nodded my head."
Did he acknowledge you? I saw "Them" in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and talked to the organ player - the guy on the albums with the black goatee. He said Van had just left. Two or three times, when he was talking about Van, he called him a "little short guy". They tore up their amp a la The Who, but they only tore up dummy amps and they had just switched to cheap guitars on the last song. Pretty cheesy. A friend of mine said he had seen "Them" in Wyoming, but it was a fake band. Pretty easy, since all they had to do was play "Gloria". He said they were better than the real "Them". |
