Apple's Mac To School Offer for '08 is very Touch-ing
#1
Apple is getting very generous and aggressive with the back-to-school crowd this year. It's offering a free (A/R) $299 8GB Touch w/ nearly any Mac purchase (yes, Mini and 17" iMac not included). If the Touch is too big for your pocket you can go for the 8GB nano.

FWIW you probably want to wait until next Monday to buy anything. At the very least the Touch 2.0 firmware will ship which will save you the hassle of having to buy it separately.

That gives you what, a $300 Mini provided you can resell the touch 100%?

No it give you a $579 mini since the mini is not included in the offer.

Also, keep sales tax in mind - you'll pay it on both the Mac and the iPod...

And it's a rebate, so it's not like you get your cash up front for it.

Unlike in previous years, it doesn't appear that you can buy a more expensive iPod and just pay the difference.

And it looks like it has to be a new Mac. Figures. We just bought a refurb black MacBook which should be arriving Friday.

Twisted logic. Assume an 8% sales tax (only 5% where I live, but I know there are a lot of 8% jurisdictions).

On a mid-model 2.4ghz Edu MacBook tax would be $100 + $24 on the Touch.
End cost a/r @ Apple would be $1224 for both the MB and iPod.

Over at Amazon same MacBook is $1225 after $75 rebate BUT no free iPod.

Actually you can buy a 16GB or 32GB touch and pay the difference. I checked that out on the terms and conditions page. The rebate is $299 for any touch and $199 for only the 8GB nano. No options for the iPod classic; perhaps that means that the classic roadmap is winding down.

The numbers can be twisted as much as you like, I'm just saying make sure you factor in sales tax with your education pricing at Apple - in some cases the promo is more like "get an iPod Touch at half price" Big Grin
