OK, so what's the general impression of the Intel iMacs?

From people who have them or have read reports online, what's the general feeling about these new Intel iMacs?

Any "Rev. A" (yes, I know it's not a revision, it's the original) issues like the G5 iMacs had?

Any rave reviews by users or online "authorities?"

they're quite speedy as long as you stick to native software.

I think it's too early to say much with the iMac and Book and no real native apps. When the PowerMac and "Studio" applications are Intel native then it will be time to compare in Apple to Apple terms.

Most indications reveal a superb effort for the Rev A Processor change . . . I have seen very little of critical relevance . . .

I have two 20" iMac Core Duos set up for a client now. They don't do anything heavy duty -- mostly Office 2004 and Filemaker work, with a little iApp action in between. No complaints about performance, really.

The only real stress tests I tried were extracting a DVD with MacTheRipper and re-encoding/burning it with Toast, and both of those took significantly longer than on my Dual G5 at home.

Are those Univ. Bin. apps or do they have to go through Rosetta?

My father in law has one. The good news is that they are much quieter than the g5 counterpart. The bad news is there are no printer drivers for his HP printer yet, called hp even. I'll be doing some experimenting with other drivers.

I've been trying to find the thread that posted pics of the disassembly process. A couple techs were commenting that they didn't look forward to working on it, and the build quality wasn't up to Apple standards. They referenced several sheets of mica-like material used as insulation as I recall. Sounds like a good reason to wait for rev. B, at least.

All-in-ones have always been more expensive to work on. If it weren't for the lack of dedicated vram in the mini I'd be recommending that more often.
