Do you want a good analogy here.
You can spend $200 for golf clubs and generally you get a set that might last you a season or two before the irons rust, the glue holding the heads to shaft disintegrates, and the cheap metal woods begin to dent and the face caves in --or-- You can spend $800 dollars or more on a set of Taylor Mades and use the same set for 20 years. Sometimes cheapness compels you and other times you save up and get something that you enjoy and will last. For the die hards out there, would a Mac be a forged set of irons and a PC a cast?

But if you are trying to grow your market share and you want more PC users to switch to a Mac; you've got to convince them the Mac is a better value. That's a tall challenge in the worst economy since the Great Depression.
We can shrug off the ads but we are Mac users. We only see this from our side of the fence.

again, i dont think apple gives a rats a$$ about market share...

If Apple cared about market share, they'd lower prices.
Instead, they care about making a profit, which they have consistently done for the past number of years, unlike most (all?) of the PC makers. You tell me: Who has the more successful business strategy? BTW, Apple's market share has also grown 2x over those profitable years so it looks like a win-win situation.

Golf clubs are an awful analogy, as you could buy a used set of Callaways for $50, and they're just as good as a new $200 set of Wilson's, more-or-less.
In my opinion, a Mac provides a modicum of more bang for the buck, but it becomes "obsolete*" just as fast as any other piece of commodity electronics. *This, too, is subjective, as I have quite a few working Macs and PCs of "vintage" status, which are still bootable and in use daily.

" The PC is better for games. He will probably be playing games on a PC while living with his parents for the next 40 years."
To hell with golf. |
