Video gets Apple employee fired
#1
From the always-interesting WFMU blog...

Why I Got Fired From Apple Computer

Erik Ott, a customer service rep at Apple Computer was fired two days after performing this love ode to a fellow Fed Ex rep at the annual Apple employee's talent show. Fortunately Ott captured his performance on tape, as well as the performances of some of his ex-coworkers: (download video, 10 mb, mpeg file or stream it from google here)

Ott's main crime (besides performing under the name Big Poppa E) appears to have been joking about leaving Apple customers languishing on hold while flirting with the sweet Fed Ex lady. It apparently left an Apple VP all agog, and two days later, Ott was out of a job. Thanks Barrett!

That's hilarious!

Some people need a sense of humor.

I smell wrongful termination suit, unless he was already a crappy employee.

This guy was really creative,

So much for Apple's "think different" theme.

Based on the problem I had with my Applecare, it would seem that "Apple doesn't care" is what it should be called.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Wrongful termination??

You don't make fun of your customers on your blog, and even worse on video, and this guy was most likely on the edge anyway.

A dude got fired from M$ for something similar. He never sued. I think his case was he had an unsanctioned camera at work, and posted picture on the web. It doesn't matter if they don't show anything, policy is the law, as far as they are concerned.

If ever needed some evidence that Apple just doesn't have a sense of humor anymore.... Come on. Gotta wish the guy the best - unless, other performance indicators supported term.

And regardless, like Apple's current success... just wish the spirit of what made Apple Apple 20 years ago was still there.

And gee.... assuming it wasn't dubbed in, lot of reps got a real kick out of that. The VP had Mr. Ott canned... he put formal right ups in the files of all those entertained by Ott too? Gee whiz - that subject material is no laughing matter.

What happened to the Apple I knew even a decade ago!
