Let's Play: "ID the Song I Heard In the Car Tonight"
#1
So driving home tonight, I heard this awesome (at least in my opinion) "Techno" song on 91.7 FM, WKDU, which is the Drexel Univ. station.

It was just a cool beat with some monologue periodically overlayed. I Googled the monologue and it's the following text from a movie called "Dark City"

Can anyone help me figure out what the song was called?

"From the movie Dark City, released in 1998 (based on a novel). Opening monologue, spoken by Dr. Daniel P. Schreber (played by Kiefer Sutherland).

First there was darkness, then came the strangers. They were a race as old as time itself. They had mastered the ultimate technology, the ability to alter physical reality by will alone. They called this ability “tuning.” But they were dying; their civilization was in decline. And so they abandoned their world, seeking a cure for their own mortality. Their endless journey brought them to small little world, in the farthest corner of the galaxy."

With an iPhone or iPod Touch this works wonderfully--and it is free

Dang man, too bad you didn't have an iPhone with you, in the car. There's a couple killer apps that can "name that tune" after only about 15 seconds. Launch the app, let your iPhone hear what's coming out of your car radio, and it can identify the song.
Artist, release date, album, the works. Shazam, and midomi are the two apps I'm aware of. And they really work. And that's the perfect situation.

Almost right. I don't believe the Touch is supported, since it doesn't have a microphone built in. However, there are some hacks out there where some people have made their own mic, attached via the dock connector.

I would *love* to see a commercially available mic add on that works with the Touch.

Shazam is such a cool app, and at this time I can't use it with my Touch. Developers, are you listening?

Shazam is great. I listen to a lot of jazz on the radio, and those guys are masochists when it comes to telling me what they just played.

If you really want to know, you should write to someone on this page:

(music director, maybe), explain the need, and ask if they'll give you DJ RyanMcShane's contact info.
