I also wonder how many were "English Americans?"
Then of course there would be the "white" African American count vs the "black" African American ratio if any of the team were descended from "European Africans" who subsequently emigrated to the US. Ah the fun we can have with words...

[quote vision63]You can chalk that statement up to "things white people say."
LOL
no clue as to the ratio of black v non black...
what about those with all of their natural body hair vs. those with body hair (any amount) missing?

Although I appreciate the view that we are all Americans first, I don't think yeoman's question is necessarily objectionable. Perhaps a useful response would be, "Why do you ask?"

Like I said, who cares?
Apparently, yeoman does, or did you not understand that the first time?
Is there something *intrinsically wrong* with asking that question? Or do some of you presume to know that yeoman is asking because of some racial prejudice or malice?
I don't know enough about yeoman to know if he's a xenophobe or if he finds census interesting, so until there's some overt indication that he's evil, I'll pass on the Condemnation Train.
I have to wonder how many of you would respond in a similar manner if a black person had said the same thing, especially if you were face-to-face. And how many of you would list "things black people say"?
And personally, I don't see a problem with people wanting to identify a race with their nationality. Really, how does that hurt anybody? Yet some of you seem deeply offended.
People is funny folks.

why do you people not have the same holier-than-thou response when it comes to political polling?
Or Football??????????????????????
hypocrites.
If I asked the question, it's because *I* care. As for my motivations were I to ask such
a question, well... you can ask, but I'm certainly not obligated to answer.
For all you know, I'm writing a graduate paper on the advancement of minorities in
international competitions on behalf of the USA.

just to be clear, i 'zinged' on things white people say in response to sentiments that it's NOT okay to ask the question. i think we're better off when we acknowledge and celebrate the american mozaic rather than pretend we're all the same. i worry about people who say they don't see my skin color when the look at me. what's wrong - are they blind or something? (and only european americans say this...)
