Too late to ask for a forum enhancement?

First, you say "why did it have to change", then wonder why don't we change to an "off the shelf" forum?

A LOT of customization work went into the earlier versions of Phorum to make it look like it did. It wasn't "off the shelf".

Admin Jim has to "work on the code" to tailor Phorum to the desires of the users.... Make the font bigger, make the font smaller... move that button over there... no, wait.. move it back..
Make the text red.. no, make it yellow... add smilies... no, get rid of Avatars...

As I understand it, that sort of crap was relatively excruciating to do under the old version, comparatively easy in the new one...
So they decided to upgrade, and Jim spent what, more than a week? on tweaking things to placate "us".
He COULD have just left Phorum in it's default state and said, "There ya go... this is the new look".
He didn't.... thankfully!

If a few things still don't look like they "used to"... and it makes Jim's life easier to keep this place running smoothly... I'm good with it.

I think the "Posted by:..." line of text in the message windows is still too big. It's gotta be at least a 14pt font. Why not smaller, like the date and time line of text?

There are constantly exploits found in 'off-the-shelf' software. Updates are necessary to plug them. I've seen forums become crippled by SPAM. If it is a popular enough site and the forum software is common enough, people will write bots that will post hundreds, or thousands of posts to push their SPAM.

I definitely like the Style or Format of this forum (phorum) better than any other ones I have seen or used.

An overwhelming majority see the white sidebars. If your theme has a tab bar that doesn't have a white background, it's quite noticeable.

Note the dates of those threads.

Still trying to get used to the "new" forum. I do have one request though. On the old forum, if you had a new private message, there would be a yellow-highlighted message on the top right. Now, it's mixed in with all the stuff like "Forum list, mark messages, etc" and it's not highlighted. I think the text is in red, but being red-green colorblind, it doesn't jump out at me. I had a private message that was a couple of days old that I didn't know about until I checked the email account I registered with and it told me I had a new private message.

I'd appreciate it if you could find a way to highlight it a little better so those of us who are colorblind can see it. Thanks!

I've made this request twice before, glad it's suddenly a high priority.
Also, reply box text is still huge.
Lafinfil, your last statement was that the admin had done about all "for now"-- I assumed there would be some kind of follow-up to solicit unresolved issues, or that there had been some sort of list made before.
Are we really all supposed to start new threads when we get tired enough of some problem that wasn't important enough to fix in the first round?
