Best real world PCI video for vintage PowerMac?
#1
After some recent downsizing, was considering buffing up the G3/500MHz upgraded PM7600 that still remains on active duty... while it has an 8MB UltimateRez PCI video card in it, which is theoretically faster than the on board video; it doesn't play nice w/ this century's LCD monitors, so it has gone unused since the CRT's disappeared in Harbourmaster's utility vehicle, leaving the mobo video to drive a single [4X3 aspect] monitor at 1280 X 960 at medium colors. The downsizing has left us w/ a PCI Radeon 9200 card which has more than ample oomph to support modern LCD monitors, so the question is, what is the earliest OS that the 9200 will function properly with? It works w/ 8.6 and 9.x, but will it suffice running 8.5, 8.1, or prior OS revs? and would it provide dual monitor support w/ these early OS's? There's a couple of 16MB Rage Pro-esque PCI cards laying around, but they're single monitor only, and I'm not sure of the resolutions they support, as the other alternative to unusable UltimateRez. So, please avail your 9200 and other vintage PCI video expertise here. Thanks,

Is there some reason you don't want to use OS 8.6 rather than 8.5 or earlier?
