What is the deal with this? I placed an order with them yesterday and asked that it be shipped to my friend's address. I get an email from newegg today stating that they were having difficulties processing my order because the address and/or phone number you provided does not match the information on file with your debit or credit card provider.
Well, it turns out that the issues was my friend's address. Newegg wanted me to contact my bank and add his address as an authorized alternate ship-to address in the record/memo field. So, I have to do this every time I order something and am shipping it to someone else? I understand them wanting to protect themselves from fraud, but hey, they just lost a sale because of this.
Am I crazy to let this annoy me? :villagers:

Yes. You're crazy.
They are doing it to protect you from fraud. Good vendors do exactly that.
Be glad they care.

Let me ask you this: If you found out that someone had stolen your credit card number and was ordering a bunch of stuff to be shipped somewhere other than your home, would you post here ranting about it? My guess is yes.

Thanks for confirming that I am crazy.

mile:
I know what they are trying to do, it just surprised me because I have never had any online vendor require that I contact my bank and add the recipients shipping address to my credit card or debit card.

Don't some vendors differentiate between billing address and shipping address?

I don't know why you're just encountering this. In my experience all vendors and credit cards have had that policy for at least a decade.

It comes up for me all the time, since there is no home mail delivery here, and my CC statements go to a P.O. Box. Some companies don't even blink, some can't deal. I have cancelled orders because of it also, and ordered from someone who doesn't make it so hard to give them money.

Your CC may not be authorizing a payment on a purchase not going to an identical billing address.
Many vendors won't do it without an authorization on the shipping address from the CC.
I drop ship to myself out of town and having to call the CC to authorize it is quite common.
I've had a vendor or two charge a fee for a drop ship.
