Gmail imap and Apple mail 4.1 problems.

It worked before SL install. Then it only allowed outgoing mail. Now I get the Triangle ! offline icon and it will not work at all. I have tried all the help suggestions at google but nothing seems to work.

A little help please...

wow. No one is having problems or no one uses gmail?

I use Gmail, but have it set up as a POP account in Mail. My kids and brother and his 2 sons all use it a POP in Mail. I'm no help with IMAP stuff.

I have two Gmail accounts. Both working normally. 17" MBP, 3.06GHz, 4GB RAM, 10.6.1, Mail Version 4.1 (1076).

Not sure about SL, my dang disc isn't here yet.

But, at times when I get the offline thing, I just quit mail and launch. It clears the problem.

Of course, both my personal and work accounts are on gmail, IMAP.

POP is oh-so-19th-century

When you click on the triangle, does it say "too many connections?" Or something like that? Google only allows a couple of devices to check the mail at the same time. I get the triangle when I have my desktop, laptop and Palm Pre all grabbing mail at the same time. It's writ down somewhere.
