I'll shortly be taking over as admin and chief content updater for my HOA's web site.
It's hosted by Network Solutions and NetSol also has the domain registration (with private option). I don't yet know what it all costs but it's probably their most-basic offering since the bandwidth and storage requirements are paltry. As far as I know we haven't had any problems with them.
I need to find out if switching to another company for some or all of this is worth the hassle, or if it's even a hassle if I find a better price or service out there.

I was going to make a joke about going to sysadmin Snoop Dogg for help with HOA's, but naaaah....

If that's the case, I'd leave it right where it is. Maybe see if you can up the storage space and bandwidth per month. That's about all I'd do with it.

I'd check to see what hosting plan the site is currently on. You'd be surprised how much people overestimate how much server space they'll need, and as a result end up spending a lot more on hosting than they need to be. Also, if they've been with the same host/plan for many years, the price might be higher that what you could currently find with either the same host or a different host.

OK-was just given the account login info. When I clicked on the renewal tab (we only do the domain and hosting on 1-year increments, and both expire Nov. 24th) here's what I found:
domain renewal for 1 yr: $35 (this is for the .com domain we've had for years. I suppose it's a little high because it's also a private registration?)
hosting renewal for 1 yr: $120 (if instead monthly, $12)
Both seem high to me but it's hard to compare when most sites only advertise new-account rates.
Not that I think I should self-host this site at my home, but I also looked at the stats for the last 12 months: barely any traffic or bandwidth at all.

OK, I was close in my estimate above. Just found the actual amount charged to the current admin's credit card for 2007 and 2008: $128.50 each time.

Interesting. With their $3.49 plan our cost could go from $128 a year down to less than $50 since they'll not charge to renew the domain.
