Mmmmm, See's chocolates
#21
actually, See's is from Northern CA, but shares the wealth across the state w/ active presence north and south and seems devoid of any SF/LA rivalries, 49er's/Rams, Dodgers/Giants, Angel's/A's, Stanford/USC, culture/tinsletown, etc.. with Ghirardelli definitely being SF, See's doesn't seem to strive for a local identity as much as a regional identity. great company. many great pieces of chocolate to enjoy.

Mountain Bars were one of my favorite candy bars. 10c when I first started buying them. Cup o' Gold was another favorite.

See's is like a version of Whitman's or Russell Stover's...

No, See's candies are *nothing* like Whitman's or Russell Stover's any more than Lexus or BMW is a version of Yugo. Not at all.

Except that they are individual pieces that come in a box. And they are chocolate. That much I'll grant.

Well, yeah, the gulf is very wide, but I assumed most people are at least familiar with the type of chocolate represented by those two brands.

Those interested in the CA angle would also find that See's uses Guittard chocolate.

Nope - originated in L.A., expanded to San Francisco:

The link Bimwad posted shows their Culver City headquarters.

I've been seeing a small assortment of See's candies in an increasing number airports in the last several months. Dallas and Miami, lately, I think.

As the link above mentions towards the bottom, See's has been a Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffet) company since 1972.
