'World's strongest' beer with 32% strength launched

I'll start with 3 cases please.......

A controversial Scottish brewery has launched what it described as the world's strongest beer - with a 32% alcohol content.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin has been unveiled by BrewDog of Fraserburgh.

I dont' think it's technically "beer" any more with that alcohol content...
At least, not legally speaking in the U.S.

Not saying it's a bad thing...

It's still beer. Water, grain, yeast and hops.

They freeze it and precipitate some of the water out as ice crystals to increase the percentage of alcohol.

Legally selling it in the U.S. could pose some interesting challenges. State and municipal licenses usually only cover beer with no more than 5% alcohol by weight, wine and/or distilled-spirits and this stuff doesn't seem to come in under any of the headings.

I'd be willing to bet it tastes like $hit.

The US is one of the few places that measure ABW (alcohol by weight) rather than APV (alcohol by volume)
If you know the ABV then multiply by .8 and you'll be pretty close to the ABW (or multiply the ABW by 1.25 to find the approx APV)

There are lot of brew in the US that are in the 9 to 10 ABV - mainly Imperial Stouts (like the Penguin Nuclear) or are Imperial Ales,
Double IPA's, Barley Wines, etc ... some well up to 20% APV

A couple of my favorites are Three Floyd's Dreadnaught at 8.5% APV, or Bells Hop Slam at 10% APV - good stuff in small quantities.

Look - if you guys want to chip in and buy me one I would be willing to test it
and give a full report as soon as I recover.

I'd bet that it is quite enjoyable - love those Imperial Stouts.
