I have to give a presentation later today(off my mac of course!), and would really like to be able to use my iPhone as a remote. I suckered up and bought the $.99 app yesterday, however when connected to my school's network my iPhone and MacBook don't appear able to find each other. My guess is that they prohibit broadcasting on the network.
Is there some way to force an IP to connect to? Or maybe do it over an AdHoc network? I tried AdHoc breifly yesterday, but even after being connected to my MBP's network the Keynote Remote app complained it wasn't connected to a WiFi network.
Any suggestions?
I suppose if I really get compelled I can do some very very fancy ssh forwarding stuff between my MacBook, iPhone and linux server, but I have a feeling there is an easier way.

how about sharing the network connection from your MacBook, then connecting to the MacBook over the new ad-hoc network.
^^^^^ I really need to work on focusing on what I'm reading and not the other things I'm doing ^^^^^^^^^

I second this, although I wouldn't term it "sharing the network connection" (which would happen in System Prefs-->Sharing), rather just setting up an ad-hoc network from the Airport menubar-->Create Network to set up your own mini-network. I've done this many times with success.

I considered that. I don't know if I have access to an ethernet drop.
I'll also try with static IPs on the AdHoc and report back.
I really wish it worked with Bluetooth but unfortunately I loaned out my Sony Ericsson S710a to my sister, otherwise I'd use that.

If I do the networking sharing thing, the iPhone will connect just fine and get an IP, and I can even link the iPhone with keynote, but in actually attempting to use it as a remote I get a mysterious error 108 that I can't seem to find anywhere on the internet.
Further Help?

error 108 on the Mac OS refers to a memory manager error, is this error on the iPhone, or the MB?

It may be too late for today, but you don't need an ethernet drop to get this to work. Simply set up a network with your airport, and connect the iPhone to that network. You do lose wireless networking to the Internet, and I guess if you need that during your presentation, you can't use this method.
