I am bummed. Storage unit broken into.

I was notified by the owner of the storage units that they had a break-in. 5 units were broken into a couple of days ago.

We got the call last night.

It looked like a bomb went off. They opened the totes of clothes and scattered them everywhere. They broke Halloween and Christmas decorations. Apparently, they thought they needed my wife's ice skates to do something with.

They stole a spare motorcycle engine, the rear wheel assembly, fairing pieces, custom seat and spare parts for my ZX11.

We are guessing about $2500 stolen or damaged.

I am so bummed. I have been busy at freelancing so I haven't gotten the new garage completely finished. We would have had the storage unit emptied before Christmas.

This sucks!

Does anyone know if my full coverage motorcycle insurance and homeowner's insurance will cover my losses?

Tough news! Sorry to hear about that. I was wondering why you had a storage unit after building that huge garage. I had assumed it was finished by now.

You may have to check with your insurance company to be sure, but I believe you are covered in this situation. Good luck, at any rate.

That super sucks. Don't be too bummed out. I'm glad they didn't break into your house. There are just people out there that are determined to separate us from what we've worked for.

I got hung up with the overhead door install. I've built a lot of things out of wood but never installed garage doors.

I also got pretty busy with freelance projects in the last month so there hasn't been a lot of free time to work on the garage. I might have to pay someone to get the doors installed.

We went though the storage unit today. It was a mess. They spilled oil on the floor. They dumped baby clothes on the floor. The place was ransacked and vandalized.

They guy with the storage unit beside us said he had all his tools and family heirlooms taken. His son with was him going through his unit today. Very sad.

I just wish I could catch these thieves with a baseball bat or a shotgun (shells filled with rock salt).

Yea, my question exactly. Those places are usually fenced, locked up, maybe guarded. Are they on the hook for any of this at all?

I can't speak for all facilities, however, I have on my rental agreement (I own a small storage business) I state:

PLEASE NOTE! WE DO NOT INSURE YOUR POSSESSIONS!

NOT in fine print, and on three separate areas of the contract.

If the storage facility provided insurance, the storage fees would be quite a bit higher. Plus, around here most folks homeowners insurance would cover the loss. YMMV

Agreed.

It's a classic, at the end of an era of what I consider a "proper" looking bike, even though repli-bikes aren't my favorite.

I especially like that style of tank, traditional, no "hump" and downward slope to the front.
