just orderd a dell mini, what else do I need.
#1
Just got a refurb dell mini 16GB, 1G RAM w/ webcam for $259. It probably wasn't the best deal ever, but I'm pretty happy with the price. It's black just like my macbook.

Now I need to know what else I need - an external DVD drive? 8gb usb flash drive?

What makes for the easiest install and where can I find a good tutorial on how to install? I have a retail Leopard install disk.

thanks in advance.

If you end up going the "live.dmg on a stick route" like I had to, the gizmodo guide includes a few key pieces of information I didn't see (but I'm sure are there somewhere) at the dellmini site.

If you don't want to buy an external DVD box that you'll hardly ever use, consider going the 2 USB stick method, since you already have a Macbook with which you can create the USB sticks. You'll need at least one 8GB+ stick. If you don't already have one, consider getting a 8 or 16 GB SDHC card and using it in a USB reader. After you're done installing, just slip it into the SDHC slot on your Mini 9 to use it as additional storage.

That's all I've got - hope it helps - and welcome to the cult club.

Thanks! I do have an 8gb SDHC for my camera that I can use with a USB card reader, and a smaller USB drive, so maybe I don't need to get anything. Thanks for the link to the other forum! Wink

I had kind of a flakey USB DVD drive set up. Sometimes it would read the disc, sometimes not which let to some frustration. If you have a good external USB DVD/CD drive; it's really a piece of cake.

I followed this set of instructions, very straightforward.
