I've replaced all of the CFLs here with energy-efficient incandescents as the bulbs burnt out.

Disposing of the burnt out CFLs safely was a PITA.

I'm waiting for cheap LED bulbs now.

The only CFL's I have had die early were GE brand bulbs. The n:Vision and Commercial Electric from Home Depot are still going well. Though I did have the GE bulbs mounted sideways in the fixture, the other GE bulbs that were used base down are still going. But there was no note about orientation on the package and it does not seem to have made any difference with the other CFL brands.

I'm w/Doc; my first installed CFL was also my last. I thought it had poor color quality -I tried 2 diffcolor temps: one was too blue, the other sickly yellow.

BTW, I'm surprised if that research is considered to be bunkum--the research was recent and from multiple credible sources.
