I must have missed where owners can Find, Send message, disable, and wipe clean, an iPod Touch
#1
LONG story short...

I found out, or was ENLIGHTENED, that the iPod Touches and now I assume iPads shortly, can utilized the inappropriately-named "Find my iPhone" service on Mobile Me.

It found my exact location. Or, the Touch's location. Not sure how it knew the Touch was ours, so that was interesting.

Again, one can
-find it
-send message
-beep for two minutes
-disable/lock it
-wipe the memory clean.

My wife keeps misplacing hers, and/OR the kids take it play with it and hide it (from her) and now she can send a beep to it.

I know... WELCOME TO THE PARTY, idiot! (me)

How accurate can it be without GPS or cell towers to help narrow it down. Seems like it could only use it's IP address as a tracking method.

It had like a google maps sat view, with a circle that encompassed about 4 or so houses in my area, but CENTERED on MINE.

it will look at all the WiFi stations around, and based on the MAC addresses (and mayse SSID?), it will look up the location from a company called SkyHook (I think).

in central NJ here in a townhouse development, it locates my position within 100 ft, not much worse than a GPS. yes, I know the GPS is supposed to be more accurate, but many times my Garmin cannot tell whether I am on the "cars only" turnpike or car, busses and trucks turnpike, which is about 60-100 feet away

Mine can never find my "Current Location" while here at home but if I'm in any decent size
city it has no problem at all. Last year in Asheville we were stuck in traffic waiting for a
train and I found a connection and was able to locate a restaurant we were looking for
while sitting there. That was before we bought our Garmin.
