I've been tracking a package from Newegg & it's taking a quite a trip to get to me. It started out in Memphis, which is 242 miles from Birmingham then went to Hebron, KY (outside of Cincinnati) then onto Forest Park, GA, in the greater Atlanta area.
At least now it's only 142 miles away.

Hmmmm...not sure about the Atlanta stopover, but sound like it went UPS. Newegg has a warehouse in Memphis and UPS hub is in Kentucky (I thought it was Louisville, though).
On a tangent note, I recall Newegg used to have FedEx as their primary carrier and that a few years back all my stuff from them went FedEx. I have to assume this is why they built a Memphis shipping facility. Do you think UPS just offered them better terms so they switched, despite the physical proximity to FedEx?

There's a big UPS hub in Forest Park.

UPS overnight sorting facility is at Louisville. Near midnight planes fill the skies as they line up to land at SDF. It's fun to watch.
This sounds like a FedEx route more than UPS.
Hebron is located right next to the Cincinnati airport (which is located just across the Ohio River in Kentucky).

newegg free shipping did that to me once - at some point they dropped it to usps and usps delivered. Usual newegg delivery is 2 days - this one took a week.

At 10:00 this morning it was handed off to the Post Office in Atlanta.
Maybe I'll get it tomorrow.
There's bound to be some logic behind this but it totally escapes me. If you're going to mail the darn thing, why not mail it from the city of origin?
And thanks, Bill! That last one really cracked me up!
