BYO Firewire enclosure needed. Suggestions?
#1
Hi Friends,

Thinking of purchasing this 1.5TB drive: http://dealmac.com/Seagate-Barracuda-1-5...99403.html

I'd like to get an inexpensive FW enclosure to house it, but I'm unsure of where to turn.

Any suggestions on a good value FW enclosure for this drive would be appreciated.

Thanks,

SR

I suggest a combined USB/FW400/FW800/ESATA enclosure. I have one but don't have the brand handy. The reason I suggest the combo enclosure is because (sadly, IMHO) Firewire seems to be going away, at least on the Macbooks. You'll be able to use it longer, and won't have to worry about not being able to connect it to various computers.

The OWC Neptune is a really great external case. They make a FireWire only version, but I don't see it currently listed in their online store:

Not at all. They sent a new (and different) signal with the release of the latest Mac mini.

I have a couple of OWC Mercury Elite enclosures and I love 'em! (I bought one before I started working at OWC and a second since.) The ones I have use quad interface, so I can use them with FW 400 on my old G4 desktop and FW 800, I use with my Intel Mac. There's also USB, if I need that.

Here's a link to the wide variety of enclosure OWC carries. Lots of different form factors, and styles.
