How do they measure interior volume?
#1
I was looking at a Hyundai ad claiming 106 cu.ft of interior volume. How do they actually measure the volume of such an irregular shape? Better yet, how can you calculate it?

Fill it up with water? I really don't know, I have wondered that myself.

Ping pong balls?

I speculate that modern cars are designed to the tiniest detail using 3D modeling software that could easily calculate volumes like that.

Or ping pong balls. That'd be way more fun and help to revive the economy by employing all those ball wranglers. (I used to date one when I was younger)

I suspect you must have a sunroof to use the ping pong ball method.

Could be done by inflating an airtight bag and measure the volume of air.

Since the measure many cars with rear seats up and down they could simply put a barrier up to prevent the "bag" from entering the passenger area.

Ping pong balls sound more fun!!!

They stuff people into the car and then measure the people and convert it into cubic feet. They used to just advertise it as, "Our SUV holds 34 people," but for some reason the consumer affairs folks in the government decided this was misleading.
