I spent last weekend on the island of Vieques off of Puerto Rico. My daughter and boyfriend finally decided to make a 14 yr friendship and 9 years of living together official.
It was a lovely time and I don't know when i have been happier. The wedding of course was wonderful and Vieques is a great vacation spot.
One caveat—no matter how much or little you pay for accommodations, be prepared to wake up (maybe several times during the course of the night) to the sounds of roosters. Everybody has chickens. There are wild horses all over the island. Mongooses. And lizards. I picked a lizard out of my shower stall one morning (what do you do when you're stark naked holding a lizard in your hand?) (Maybe not a good question to ask on this forum).
Anyway here's some pictures:

yrs truly giving away the daughter

Brother, bride, groom, sister

This is the main room of the building where they were staying.

there is a pool

This is the space where the ceremony and the dinner were held. That's the Atlantic in the distance. You could see the Caribbean on the other side.

View from the pool thru the main room to the patio on the other side.
The building was one of a pair of cement structures that looked like a fortress but were pretty comfortable on the interior—if you like cement. They were on a high hill up a dirt and rutted road, not easy to get to.
The car rental places on Vieques rent Jeeps. There is a reason for that.
Worst roads i have seen.
