Safari quitting with Facebook
#1
Safari 4.02 has been mostly stable for me, with the exception of a guaranteed quit when typing into the comments or message text fields. Crashes almost every time. No such problems I've noticed on other sites.

Anyone else seeing this?

The symptom corresponds to an input manager problem.

Have you cleaned out your "~/Library/InputManagers" and "/Library InputManagers" folders?

It is a new feature in Safari designed to reduce your time on facebook.

Got the first one where is the second, in the user's library? Can't see it there.

The only thing in the first folder was a file from 1Password, which I deleted (which removed 1Password from Safari). This did not solve the problem.

In which case I must write Apple and thank them.

I have had intermittent trouble with Facebook crashing my Safari, even before 4.0.x. Probably some stupid third party Facebook apps causing it, or some bad code in Facebook proper. It's the only site that ever crashes my browser.

Safari has hung up (hanged up?) six times on me in last hour. Having to force quit. Sigh.

It might not be there.

The fact that it specifically hits you when you're editing text points strongly to an input manager at work, but there are other things that it could be.

I'd first try disabling autofill in the preferences.

'Next thing I'd try would be resetting Safari (from the Safari menu). Keep your cookies. Let it clear the rest.

After that, I'd try clearing font caches.

Then I'd try removing my Internet Plugins.

The wife discovered Facebook this week. She's been on almost non-stop every evening this week, with no issues.

We don't run any add-ons - Doc's suggestion to look in that direction is good advice.

Safari 4.0 and 4.0.2 both froze on me occasionally.

Both instances were cured with a Safe Boot and Restart.
