I received a notice that delivery of a certified letter was attempted.
I have no way until Friday to get to the post office . . . not really expecting anything. All I can think of is something legal (not expecting anything at all . . .)--
What's the last unexpected letter you received "certified?"

You will find out Friday? Could be a jury duty notice, a summons to appear in court, that check you have been expecting from Nigeria or just about anything.

Usually certified letters are sent certified. That's been my experience.
btw... certified is just legal proof that the letter was sent. Could be for collection too. Notice to vacate, etc.

I'd be in no rush to pick it up. They'll try again if it's important.

Collection: Nope, nothing.
Notice to vacate: Own, never a late mortgage payment.
Court and jury summons-- have received my share, never sent certified.
Check from Nigeria-- that would be a best-case scenario.

Something from a tenant who needs to prove (s)he sent something to you "for the record", perhaps?

Are you having any construction or other work done? Construction lien notices are often sent certified.
Generally certified letters are not bring good news.

I'll occasionally get certified mail when someone is sending me money or payment for something. I also have received some ebay purchases (prepaid calling cards) via certified mail. It's kind of inconvenient, but for something that may be valuable or important, it's probably the best way.
