Quetion about Time Machine as backup for college student

Since laptops in a college environment are prime targets for theft I would make a bootable clone of the HD and do that frequently.

Won't that require a second HD? Or can you make a partition a bootable drive—and keep TM on the other partition?

If theft is a danger, an offsite backup (e.g. to an Internet site) is the best option.

But you do have to be able to burn a dual layer DVD, right? Or not? That part wasn't clear to the likes of me.
